Darmstadt, June 05, 2026

The murder trial against a 57-year-old man from Heppenheim, who is accused of stabbing his 34-year-old ex-wife to death in August 2025, began on Thursday at the Darmstadt Regional Court.

Indictment: Separation not accepted

The public prosecutor's office accuses the defendant of not accepting the separation and of killing his former wife with a knife in the stairwell outside their shared apartment on the evening of August 31, 2025. The woman succumbed to her severe stab and cut wounds, of which a dozen were counted and one of which fatally injured her heart, on her way to the hospital. The defendant holds German citizenship and was unemployed at the time of the crime.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the defendant, his wife, and their two children – a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son – continued to live together in the Heppenheim apartment despite their divorce, which was finalized at the end of April 2025, as the woman had not found her own accommodation. The two-room apartment with a kitchen and bathroom was divided between the parents: the woman slept with the daughter in the bedroom, and the man with the son in the living room.
