Wels, 15 June 2026

Four Dutch nationals of North African origin, aged 28, 35, 36, and 37, have been answering to the charges since Monday at the Regional Court of Wels, accused of carrying out a series of ATM explosions in Upper Austria and Vienna.

The indictment lists several coups in Wels, Gmunden, as well as in Vienna and Brunn am Gebirge in the summer of 2025. According to the public prosecutor's office, the defendants allegedly deliberately blew up ATMs last year to obtain cash. In addition to the explosions, the men are also charged with armed robberies and thefts connected to the offences.

The loot from the explosions is said to amount to more than 300,000 euros. The property damage the gang allegedly caused to the machines and surrounding buildings far exceeds the loot sum, according to the indictment. Specific figures for the damage were not initially provided at the start of the trial.
