On Wednesday, the murder trial against two Polish men was continued at the Vienna Regional Court. According to the indictment, they are alleged to have drowned a 37-year-old Romanian homeless man in the New Danube just under a year ago.
The public prosecutor's office accuses the two suspects of first knocking the victim unconscious on the Danube Island and then dragging him from a bridge pier of the Nordbrücke via a towpath to the New Danube. There, the 37-year-old, who was 1.74 meters tall and weighed 62 kilograms at the time, was allegedly drowned. Both defendants are from Poland, the victim from Romania; all those involved belonged to Vienna's homeless scene.
