Wuppertal, July 6, 2026

On July 6, 2026, the trial of three defendants aged 60, 38, and 35, accused of violations of the War Weapons Control Act and the Weapons Act, began before the Wuppertal Regional Court.

Background of the investigations

According to the prosecution, at the center of the proceedings is a 60-year-old main defendant, who, as a trained automotive mechanic, is said to possess gunsmith knowledge. After a multi-day search of a building complex in Remscheid's city center, he was stopped and arrested by special forces on the A1 autobahn in his car on October 26, 2025. The two co-defendants, aged 38 and 35, are alleged to have resold weapons. According to the indictment, the 60-year-old is said to have sold six submachine guns and one revolver with ammunition to the 38-year-old co-defendant. If convicted, the main defendant is likely to face a lengthy prison sentence.
