Tropical Storm Dolphin caused heavy rainfall and flooding over the weekend in parts of eastern China, particularly in Shanghai and the province of Zhejiang; Shanghai authorities called on residents to stay home if possible.

Extent of the Flooding

Tropical Storm Dolphin moved across the coast of eastern China in recent days, bringing sustained heavy rainfall according to local reports. The megacity of Shanghai and adjacent areas in Zhejiang province were particularly affected, where rivers overflowed their banks and streets were submerged.

In Shanghai, the crisis management office addressed the roughly 25 million residents. The city administration published a notice urging the population "möglichst nicht vor die Tür zu treten" (to step outside the door as little as possible). Commuter traffic was restricted in parts of the city, and residents in low-lying neighborhoods were asked to prepare for possible evacuations.
