Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, heavily backed by former President Donald Trump, has defeated incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate.

The primary, held ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections, saw Paxton win with approximately two-thirds of the Republican vote, according to reports. The campaign shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the race, mostly on television advertising.

Trump endorsed Paxton in the final stretch before the runoff, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas'. The former president had targeted Cornyn, labeling him 'disloyal' for occasionally criticizing Trump.
