Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General and a self-styled 'MAGA warrior,' won the Republican primary runoff for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, unseating longtime incumbent John Cornyn after a record-shattering campaign.

Donald Trump endorsed Paxton at the last moment before the runoff, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas.' The former president has targeted Republicans he considers disloyal, and Cornyn had occasionally criticized Trump in the past.

Paxton captured roughly two-thirds of the Republican primary vote, according to early tallies. The contest drew more than $120 million in spending, mostly on television advertising, setting a new record for a Texas primary.
