Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General and a staunch Donald Trump ally, defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas on Tuesday.

A Record-Breaking, Trump-Driven Race

Trump endorsed Paxton at the last moment before the runoff election, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas.' He had previously labeled Cornyn 'disloyal' after the senator criticized him on several occasions.

The primary campaign shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the race, mostly on television advertising. Approximately two-thirds of Republican primary voters favored Paxton over Cornyn, according to early tallies.
