Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, heavily supported by former President Donald Trump, defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
Approximately two-thirds of Republican voters in Texas favored Paxton over Cornyn, according to early tallies, marking a decisive victory for the Trump-aligned wing of the party. The primary campaign shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the race, primarily on television advertising.
Trump endorsed Paxton at the last moment before the runoff, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas'. The former president had labeled Cornyn 'disloyal' because the senator had occasionally criticized him in the past.
