Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General and a close ally of Donald Trump, defeated incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Texas on Tuesday.

With roughly two-thirds of the vote, Paxton secured the nomination in a race that shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the campaign, primarily on television advertising.

Trump endorsed Paxton the week before the primary, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas'. The former president has actively worked to unseat Republican incumbents he deems disloyal, a campaign that also saw Representatives Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana lose their primaries.

Paxton, 63, has served as Texas Attorney General since 2014 and previously held seats in both the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate. He studied psychology and law and worked as a lawyer before entering politics.
