Ken Paxton, the scandal-plagued Texas Attorney General, won the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating incumbent John Cornyn after a last-minute endorsement from Donald Trump.
Paxton secured roughly two-thirds of the vote in the runoff, according to early tallies, capping a record-shattering primary campaign in which over 120 million dollars were spent, mostly on television advertising.
Trump publicly endorsed Paxton the previous week, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas.' The former president had labeled Cornyn 'disloyal' because the senator had occasionally criticized him in the past.
