Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating incumbent John Cornyn with decisive support from former President Donald Trump.

The primary, a lead-up to the November midterm elections, saw Paxton capture roughly two-thirds of the Republican vote, according to early tallies. The result marks a significant victory for Trump's effort to purge the party of members he deems disloyal.

Trump publicly endorsed Paxton the previous week, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas.' The former president had labeled Cornyn 'disloyal' because the senator had occasionally criticized him in the past.
