Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General heavily endorsed by Donald Trump, defeated incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn in the state's Republican primary on Tuesday.
Approximately two-thirds of Republican primary voters favored Paxton over Cornyn, according to early tallies. The race shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the campaign, mostly on television advertising.
The primary was the latest battleground in Trump's broader retaliation campaign against Republican incumbents he considers disloyal. Trump openly endorsed Paxton last week, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas'.
