Ken Paxton, the Attorney General of Texas, won the Republican primary runoff for a U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating incumbent John Cornyn after a last-minute endorsement from Donald Trump.
Paxton, 63, secured roughly two-thirds of the vote in the primary runoff, according to early results. The race shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the campaign, primarily on television advertising.
Trump endorsed Paxton shortly before the runoff, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas.' The former president had labeled Cornyn 'disloyal,' a charge that resonated with the party's base.
