Ken Paxton, the scandal-plagued Texas Attorney General, won the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating longtime incumbent John Cornyn after a last-minute endorsement from Donald Trump.
Paxton captured roughly two-thirds of the vote in a primary campaign that shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into television advertising. The race was the latest flashpoint in Trump's ongoing retaliation campaign against Republicans he deems disloyal.
Trump publicly endorsed Paxton last week, calling him a 'real MAGA warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas'. The former president had labeled Cornyn 'disloyal' because the senator had occasionally criticized him.
