Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton won the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Senator John Cornyn with the crucial support of former President Donald Trump.

Paxton captured roughly two-thirds of the vote in a primary runoff that shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into the race, mostly on television advertising. The result marks a dramatic shift in Texas Republican politics, as a long-serving, more moderate incumbent was ousted by a hardline Trump loyalist.
