Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General backed by former President Donald Trump, won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, defeating long-serving incumbent John Cornyn.

With approximately two-thirds of the vote, Paxton’s victory marks a significant shift in Texas Republican politics, ousting a more moderate figure who had been discussed as a potential Senate leader. The primary campaign shattered spending records, with over 120 million dollars poured into television advertising.
