At the NATO summit in Ankara, US President Donald Trump has linked a more extensive troop withdrawal from Europe to a settlement in the dispute over Greenland, while Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen sharply rejected the American takeover demand.
Shortly after his arrival at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump declared that the Arctic island of Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, should in future be controlled by the United States. The head of government of the Kingdom of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, rejected this demand immediately and in sharp tones. Greenland is, as a matter of fact, part of the Kingdom of Denmark; a transfer to the United States is not up for debate in Copenhagen.
