US President Donald Trump has, through a decree signed on Friday, ordered that warning signs against alleged disinformation be installed at the National Museum of American History in Washington and that all exhibition texts be reviewed.
The order provides that visitors to the museum will henceforth be informed through signage that parts of the exhibitions must, in the view of the White House, be revised to present "accurate information about the history of America." This, the justification stated, would counter the museum's "ideological capture." According to the government's account, the warning signs are intended to provide "reliable information" about American history that is currently being withheld from visitors.
