Taiwanese contract chipmaker TSMC lifted its net profit by 77 percent to just under 707 billion Taiwan dollars in the second quarter, driven by persistently strong demand for AI chips.

As the world's largest contract chipmaker announced on Thursday in Hsinchu, surplus climbed 77 percent to just under 707 billion Taiwan dollars (19 billion euros). With this, TSMC exceeded expert expectations.

Revenue, as already known since Monday, jumped 36 percent to 1.27 trillion on the back of strong chip demand resulting from the AI boom. The sustained high demand for AI chips delivered TSMC a 77 percent profit surge in the second quarter.
