Tulsi Gabbard is stepping down as U.S. Director of National Intelligence, citing her husband's cancer diagnosis, according to a resignation letter she shared on Friday.
Tulsi Gabbard, who has served as President Donald Trump's director of national intelligence since February 2025, announced her resignation in a letter posted on X. The 45-year-old official said she would leave her post on June 30.
In her resignation letter, Gabbard cited her husband's diagnosis with a rare form of bone cancer as the primary reason for her departure. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the role for the past year and a half.
Gabbard personally informed President Trump of her decision during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. According to sources familiar with the discussion, the conversation was cordial and understanding.
