Tunis, June 16, 2026
The Tunisian Football Federation officially agreed on Monday to the dismissal of national team coach Sabri Lamouchi, after the North African side had lost their first World Cup match against Sweden 1:5 the previous day.
The decision came the day after Tunisia's heaviest World Cup defeat in a long time. Against the Scandinavians, known as "Tre Kronor," the team conceded five goals and was only able to celebrate once itself. The federation responded to a sporting downward spiral that had already been hinted at during preparation.
Even before the tournament, Lamouchi and his team had to endure two clear friendly match defeats. In March, the team lost 0:1 to Austria, and in the final dress rehearsal, they suffered a 0:5 against Belgium. Both matches already showed clear defensive problems that continued in the first competitive match against the Swedes.
