A car driven by a 47-year-old woman struck three 12-year-old boys on bicycles on Hagenstraße in Dinslaken on Wednesday morning, killing two of them.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. as the boys were cycling to the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium shortly before classes began. The driver veered off the road for reasons that remain under investigation, hitting the children before colliding with three parked cars and causing significant damage.
Two of the boys sustained very serious injuries and were later pronounced dead at hospital. The third boy suffered only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment; he is being cared for by his parents.
The driver was seriously injured in the crash. Emergency services, including two rescue helicopters, treated the victims at the scene and transported the children to hospitals. School crossing guards and witnesses immediately alerted emergency services, and emergency chaplains were deployed to the scene.
