Two 12-year-old boys died and a third was injured when a car struck their bicycles on Hagenstraße in Dinslaken on Wednesday morning shortly before school started.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. as the three boys, all students at the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium, were cycling to school. The 47-year-old female driver veered off the road for reasons that remain under investigation, struck the group, and then lost control of her vehicle, crashing into three parked cars.
Emergency responders treated the victims at the scene before the children were taken to hospitals. Two rescue helicopters were deployed due to the severity of the injuries. Despite medical efforts, two of the boys later died in hospital. The third boy suffered only minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
