Two men were killed on Saturday morning in a traffic accident on the West Autobahn A1 in the Amstetten district of Lower Austria, when their car struck a guardrail and the barrier pierced into the vehicle.
Course of the Accident on the A1
According to information provided by Notruf Niederösterreich (Lower Austria Emergency Services), as reported to the APA, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning on the A1 in the direction of Vienna. For reasons that have not yet been determined, the car left the roadway and collided with the guardrail at the edge of the lane. A section of the barrier penetrated the interior of the vehicle.
The two male occupants succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident. A female passenger sustained serious injuries and, after receiving initial treatment from the emergency responders, had to be airlifted by rescue helicopter to a hospital in Linz. No further information on the woman's exact condition was initially available.
