A massive chemical tank rupture at a packaging plant in Longview, Washington, has left two people dead, nine missing, and eight injured, including a firefighter, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at a facility operated by a company that manufactures cartons for liquids. According to the local fire department, a tank holding more than 3.4 million liters of white liquor, a chemical used in the paper pulping process, burst on Tuesday.

One employee was recovered from the site on Tuesday but later succumbed to his injuries, marking the second confirmed fatality from the industrial accident. The first death was confirmed earlier.
