Innsbruck, July 3, 2026
Officers from the Innsbruck City Police Command have arrested two Austrian suspects, aged 29 and 37, who are suspected of having stolen more than 1,100 meters of copper cable from construction sites in the city area between the end of May and June 2026.
The two men are charged with a total of eleven copper cable thefts in the city of Innsbruck. According to investigators, the stolen goods consisted mainly of high-voltage cables, and in some cases copper pipes were also taken. The crimes extended over a period from May 31 into June 2026.
The damage caused by the thefts is estimated by police to be in the five-figure euro range. According to investigators, the stolen cables and pipes were apparently deliberately removed from active construction sites, which, in addition to the material damage, is likely to have caused disruptions to the construction process.
