The Tyrolean FPÖ chief Markus Abwerzger considers a solo government by the Freedom Party possible and has called on Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) to use a veto in the European Council against larger EU projects as long as no solution for transit traffic in Tyrol has been found.
Veto demand citing Paris, Budapest and Berlin
Abwerzger justified his demand with the behavior of other heads of state and government. He pointed out that the leaders of France, Hungary, and Germany had used similar vetoes to push through national interests. "Dieser müsse im Europäischen Rat wegen des Transit-Problems endlich von seinem Veto-Recht im Sinne des Einstimmigkeitsprinzips Gebrauch machen", said Abwerzger, according to the available sources, with reference to Stocker.
