Innsbruck, 03 July 2026

The state of Tyrol issued an immediately effective ordinance on Friday, 3 July 2026, for the Bezirk Landeck that provides the legal basis for deterrence measures against a repeatedly confirmed bear and for fitting the animal with a GPS collar through 26 August.

Background: repeated confirmations since March

As the state of Tyrol announced in a press release, the state government was responding to the animal's persistent presence. Since March, the presence of a bear in the Bezirk Landeck has been confirmed eight times. One trigger was an incident in which a bear reportedly killed a sheep in Nauders.
