Agency Downplays Health Concerns

Shortly after the initial announcement, Lindenberg's PR agency issued a statement downplaying the severity of the situation. The agency described the issue as merely his 'annoying gastritis' – an inflammation of the stomach lining.

The singer himself addressed his condition with characteristic humor. He said he was having his annoying gastritis 'chased away' and at the same time the 'whole body is getting its check-up.'

Lindenberg added a defiant message about his future: 'The shop is supposed to hold out for a while longer, after all. At least until 100!'

Reports of Cardiac Examinations

The Brost Foundation later clarified that Lindenberg had decided to combine the necessary treatment with an already scheduled routine check-up at the clinic. The foundation has worked closely with Lindenberg for years.

German tabloid Bild reported that Lindenberg, who resides at the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg, is currently undergoing cardiological examinations at a hospital in the Hanseatic city. The Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper wrote that the singer suffered a fainting spell on Wednesday and was initially treated in his hotel suite.

Lindenberg's personal trainer, Natalie Zimmermann, offered a positive assessment of his overall condition in an interview with the newspaper. 'Udo's fitness level is that of a 40- to 50-year-old,' she said.

Hometown Birthday Celebrations Curtailed

The cancellation comes just weeks after Lindenberg celebrated his 80th birthday on May 17. He was born in Gronau, a town in the Münsterland region of North Rhine-Westphalia, on May 17, 1946, and has been an honorary citizen of the city since 2016.

A series of events had been planned in his hometown to mark the milestone birthday. The now-cancelled 'Udo Lindenberg & Friends' event was one of the highlights, intended as a 'special evening' with the singer and numerous companions.

Despite the cancellation of the concert, another major birthday tribute will proceed as planned. A special exhibition titled 'Udo L. – aus dem Pott ins Hotel' at the rock'n'popmuseum in Gronau is not affected by the cancellation.

Museum Exhibition to Open as Planned

The exhibition is scheduled to open as planned on June 4, 2026, and will run until December 6, 2026. Its centerpiece is a faithful replica of Lindenberg's hotel room in Hamburg, created as a belated tribute for his 80th birthday.

Lindenberg remains one of Germany's most famous musicians. He achieved his breakthrough in 1973 with the album 'Alles klar auf der Andrea Doria' and is particularly known for songs like 'Sonderzug nach Pankow' and 'Cello.'

His career has spanned decades, and he has remained commercially successful well into his later years. In 2023, he reached number one on the German single charts with the song 'Komet,' a collaboration with rapper Apache 207.

A Six-Decade Career

Before his birthday, Lindenberg had traveled to Scotland with his partner, Tine Acke, 49. A few weeks ago, he was in good spirits while opening an exhibition of his paintings and drawings in Werl, about 100 kilometers from Gronau.

Lindenberg has been an honorary citizen of Hamburg since September 2022. He continues to live in the Hotel Atlantic in the city, a residence that has become part of his public legend.

The Brost Foundation concluded its announcement by confirming that the museum exhibition would open as scheduled. 'The special exhibition is not affected by the cancellation and will be on view as planned from June 4 to December 6, 2026,' the statement read.
