Makeiev pointed to shared values with European and allied states. These values form the basis for the „Schulterschluss zur Abwehr der russischen Angriffe“, he said. In this context, the ambassador spoke of the „Ländern Europas und der zivilisierten Welt“, which share common ideas of a good life and a just peace.

The invitation to the state parliament was issued by members of several parliamentary groups. In addition to the CDU and SPD, the address was also brought forward by the AfD parliamentary group, according to the reporting. This meant that the speech took place within a broadly supported parliamentary framework.

In terms of content, Makeiev used the appearance to underscore the importance of German support at both the military and societal level. The defense against Russian missiles is only possible through the continuous help of the Federal Republic, he said.

Shared values and solidarity

At the same time, the ambassador appealed for further unity. Ukraine sees itself engaged in a defensive struggle against an aggressor that is continuing the war. An end is only possible if Ukraine can secure its position through strength and if its international partners remain at its side.

Looking to the future, Makeiev formulated a clear condition: peace must be just; a simple end to hostilities is not enough. Ukraine will therefore continue to rely on a strengthened defense and on solidarity with its partners.

The appearance in the Brandenburg state parliament is part of a series of speeches in which the Ukrainian ambassador seeks dialogue with German state parliaments. Brandenburg is considered one of the federal states that have repeatedly supported Ukraine with aid in recent years.

At the end of his speech, Makeiev once again expressly thanked the taxpayers in Germany. Without their contribution, the federal government's willingness to help in this form would not be possible, he said. The solidarity of the population is a decisive factor in Ukraine's defensive struggle.
