US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that soldiers in the US armed forces aged 30 and over will in future be mandatorily tested for their testosterone levels as part of the annual health examination.
The announcement was made in a video on the platform X. Hegseth justified the step with the goal of ensuring that soldiers have "die richtigen Testosteronwerte" (the right testosterone levels) in order to perform at their best.
For soldiers under 30, the test is voluntary, as the video makes clear. Hegseth also pointed to the fact that testosterone levels often decline naturally with age. Treatment in the event of a detected deficiency will be recommended but is not mandatory.
