US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth used a speech at the Normandy American Cemetery on Saturday to liken migration into several European countries to an invasion, prompting criticism at a ceremony marking 82 years since D-Day.

Speaking at the American war cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer on the Normandy coast, Hegseth told the audience that 'various European beaches are being stormed by various dangerous ideologies' and that 'boats and people are landing on the beaches of Spain, Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria.' He asked when European governments would act: 'Wann werden europäische Hauptstädte etwas gegen diese Invasion tun?' He added that he 'bete und glaube,' dass es nicht zu spät sei, according to a KNA report carried by Deutschlandfunk.
