US President Donald Trump has suspended the most recently prepared sanctions against Russia indefinitely, triggering fierce criticism from opposition lawmakers and some Republicans.

According to information from Congress, the US government has paused the planned tougher punitive measures against Moscow indefinitely. This marks a U-turn in sanctions policy toward Russia, which had recently been moving toward an expansion of economic pressure on the Kremlin.

Senator Thom Tillis addressed the public directly, sharply denouncing the decision. On the platform X, he wrote: "Es ist unerhört, dass diese Regierung vor einem russischen Diktator kapituliert, der illegal in die Ukraine eingefallen ist und jeden Tag unschuldige Zivilisten niedermetzelt." He thus joins a growing chorus of critics accusing the administration of being too soft on the Kremlin.
