A US federal judge has lifted the US Department of Defense's sanction against AI company Anthropic, deeming the measure unlawful and unfounded.
Background of the Sanction
At the center of the case is the Pentagon's classification of Anthropic as a so-called supply chain risk. With this categorization, the company had been denied access to sensitive US military contracts and information. Anthropic fought the decision in court.
Federal Judge Rita Lin has now ruled in favor of the company. In her written opinion, she described the Pentagon's actions as "ilegales e infundadas" – unlawful and unfounded. In doing so, she followed Anthropic's argument, which had criticized the risk classification as arbitrary.
