The PCE price index, preferred by the US Federal Reserve, rose 4.1 percent in May compared to the previous year, while US household personal income increased by 0.7 percent, exceeding economists' expectations.
US personal consumption expenditures also rose by 0.7 percent in May, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported. "Die privaten Konsumausgaben zogen im Mai ebenfalls um 0,7 Prozent an," the agency's statement said. In the previous month, consumer spending had risen by a downwardly revised 0.4 percent.
On a monthly basis, the PCE price index rose by 0.4 (0.4) percent in May. The core PCE inflation rate, which excludes volatile price components such as energy and food, increased by 0.3 (0.2) percent on a monthly basis.
