US President Donald Trump responded to the significantly higher US inflation in May with the words "The numbers were great. I love inflation," triggering a broad debate.

US inflation rose significantly in May for the second consecutive month and, according to the US Department of Labor, stood at 4.2 percent above the same month a year earlier – surpassing the four-percent mark for the first time in three years. The inflation rate is thus moving further away from the two-percent target of the US Federal Reserve (Fed).
