On Tuesday, the US Senate confirmed lawyer and financial expert Kevin Warsh as the new chair of the Federal Reserve by a vote of 54 to 45.

Partisan Split in the Senate

The Senate vote strictly followed party lines: All 13 present Republicans voted for Trump's nominee, while all 11 Democratic senators voted against Warsh. The bipartisan majority was achieved through independent and moderate senators who joined the Republican caucus.

In a previous vote, the Senate had already confirmed Warsh as a Fed Governor for a 14-year term by a 51 to 45 margin. His reconfirmation as central bank chief marks a key step in the reshuffling of leadership positions at the US central bank.
