US sources: Attacks on Iran continued on Tuesday – targets in Bushehr also hit

Among the targets hit was also the city of Bushehr, home to the Islamic Republic's only active nuclear power plant, according to US sources. This marks a significant expansion of Washington's military operations.

US President Donald Trump had declared the ceasefire with Iran ended last week. On Monday, he already announced further harsh attacks on Iran for Tuesday as well.

Escalation in the region

On Tuesday evening (local time), a US official confirmed the new attacks to dpa. The report was distributed by dpa-AFX from Washington.

In parallel with the escalation, Trump announced he would resume the naval blockade against Iran. According to military sources, the blockade takes effect on Tuesday at 10 p.m. German time.

Naval blockade and fee for the Strait of Hormuz

At the same time, Trump wants to charge a fee for every ship passing safely through the Strait of Hormuz. This is intended to compensate the costs incurred in ensuring safe passage. At the end of June, his Secretary of State Rubio had still stressed that no country had the right to charge money for the use of international waters, as they belonged to no state.

The Revolutionary Guards responded, according to their own statements, with attacks on US targets, including in Bahrain. This raises the threat of a further expansion of the conflict in the region.

In the Strait of Hormuz area, tankers were attacked again. One Indian crew member was killed. According to its own statements, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires.
