US equity markets closed lower on Wednesday as investors acted cautiously ahead of the post-market quarterly reports from major tech corporations and amid rising oil prices and growing doubts about high AI investments.

Indices barely move – caution dominates

The blue-chip Wall Street index Dow Jones Industrial lost 0.01 percent to 52,218.58 points. The NASDAQ 100, dominated by major tech corporations, declined 0.54 percent to 28,998.10 points, after having risen by nearly two percent the previous day. The broad-based S&P 500 lost 0.14 percent to 7,498.96 points, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded a decline of 0.57 percent to 25,690.90 points.

Investors on US stock markets held back on Wednesday ahead of the quarterly earnings due after the close from several tech heavyweights. In addition to Texas Instruments and IBM, Alphabet and Tesla – two of the "Magnificent 7" – also released their figures, as capital market strategist Jürgen Molnar of broker Robomarkets explained. "Above all, these two are likely to set the direction for the technology sector and the mood on the markets for the time being," Molnar expects.
