The United States conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian missile sites and boats attempting to lay mines south of Larak Island on Monday, as top Iranian negotiators arrived in Doha for peace talks to end the dragging war.
The attacks targeted missile launch sites and vessels trying to emplace mines in the Strait of Hormuz, according to US Central Command. Iran’s state-run Nour News reported that the operation, which it described as a joint US-Israeli attack, killed several Iranian personnel.
Central Command spokesman Tim Hawkins characterized the operation as “self-defence strikes in southern Iran” aimed at protecting US troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. He added that the US “continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.”
