Vienna Airport will commission 35 new CT scanners on July 3, 2026, thereby lifting the 100-milliliter limit for liquids in carry-on luggage, for which around 25 million euros were invested.
Background: CT scanners replace X-ray technology
Vienna Airport is fundamentally modernizing its security checkpoints. As the company announced, 35 new CT scanners will be deployed at the control points from Friday, July 3, 2026. This goes hand in hand with the lifting of the previously applicable 100-milliliter rule for liquids in carry-on luggage. Travelers will be allowed to take up to two liters of liquid on board in the future, and the previously required transparent one-liter plastic bag will no longer be necessary.
