Vienna, 28 May 2026
Beran A., the main defendant in the trial concerning a foiled attack plot targeting Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, has been found guilty.
The 21-year-old Austrian with North Macedonian roots had admitted at the start of the trial that he planned an attack on a concert by the US star in Vienna in August 2024.
The court also spent hours deliberating on whether Beran A. was involved in forming a terrorist cell.
The Foiled Plot
The verdict announcement is currently ongoing at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt.
The proceedings have drawn significant public attention due to the high profile of the intended target and the scale of the planned attack.
Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform multiple sold-out shows at Vienna's Ernst-Happel-Stadion as part of her global tour.
The concerts were ultimately canceled after authorities uncovered the plot, disappointing tens of thousands of fans who had traveled to the Austrian capital.
Court Deliberations
Prosecutors argued that the defendant had taken concrete steps to prepare the attack, including acquiring materials and conducting reconnaissance.
The defense had asked the court to consider the defendant's age and personal circumstances during sentencing.
The court's ruling marks a significant moment in Austria's ongoing efforts to counter domestic extremism.
What Comes Next
Legal experts note that the verdicts are not yet legally binding, meaning appeals are possible once the full written judgment is issued.
The case has also prompted renewed debate about security measures at large public events across Europe.
Authorities have not released details on any potential additional suspects or related investigations.
