Vienna, 27 May 2026
Vienna's city government is preparing for another round of automatic fee increases for waste, water, and sewer services at the start of 2027, driven by an inflation-linked legal mechanism.
The Inflation Trigger
After a year of near-historic price hikes for municipal services in 2026—including the annual public transport pass, parking permits, swimming pools, and the dog tax—residents are now facing a second wave of rising costs.
The fees for waste collection, water, and sewage must be raised due to a legal automatism, by an amount of at least around 4.5 percent. The trigger is the steadily growing inflation, which has already pushed the relevant threshold well past the required mark.
