Vienna FPÖ demands city allowance for police officers

Police officers serving in Vienna are exposed, according to the party, to multiple burdens: a high crime burden, dense urban structure, and rising cost of living. A dedicated allowance is intended to offset this additional burden.

Demand as a response to personnel shortage

The Ministry of the Interior regularly publishes recruitment figures that illustrate the need for new hires. The FPÖ argues that financial incentives could make an important contribution to attracting more applicants for service in Vienna.

Nepp announced that he would raise the issue in upcoming political discussions at the federal level. A response from the federal government or the Vienna city government to the initiative was not initially forthcoming.

Police union representatives have repeatedly pointed out in the past the particular burdens in Vienna. The FPÖ takes up this criticism with its demand and translates it into a concrete financial-policy proposal.

The Vienna police have increasingly come into the focus of public debate in recent years, due among other things to rising deployment figures and a growing workload. A city allowance would, in the Freedom Party's view, be a contribution to recognizing the value of the deployed personnel.

Open questions on design

It remains unclear so far how such a city allowance could be designed in concrete terms. A fixed monthly amount or a percentage surcharge on the base salary would be conceivable. The FPÖ has not commented on the details so far.
