The Younion union is warning of a massive staffing gap in Vienna's kindergartens, with around 1,800 unfilled positions, and is calling on the city to take swift action.
At a staff assembly in Vienna, the Younion union pointed to the acute staff shortage in the municipal kindergarten system. According to the union, around 1,800 positions in Vienna kindergartens are currently unfilled. The union sees childcare and educational quality at the facilities as endangered by this.
Younion representative Manfred Obermüller spoke of a burden that was barely bearable any longer for employees. The missing staff had to be absorbed by the remaining colleagues. This led to overtime, additional strain, and growing dissatisfaction within the teams.
