In the past school year, a total of 831 suspensions were imposed against 718 children and young people at Viennese schools, according to an evaluation published on Tuesday.

Background: 831 suspensions in the school year

The number of suspensions corresponds to 0.28 percent of all pupils in Vienna and is therefore almost at the level of the previous year, in which 784 suspensions were registered. A total of 718 children and young people were affected, meaning that almost 13 percent of those suspended faced the measure repeatedly. The data was made public on Tuesday.

Measured against the respective number of children, the proportion of suspensions was highest at special schools with 2 percent and at middle schools with 1.3 percent. These types of schools therefore recorded an above-average number of suspensions. The city attributes this, among other things, to the particular composition of the student body.
