The School of Education at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) and Österreichischer Bundesverlag (öbv) found in an online survey of more than 2,000 teachers that 52 percent of Austrian teachers feel psychologically stressed by their work.

The study, published on Tuesday, was conducted at the end of 2025 and targeted teachers of all school types in Austria. A total of more than 2,000 educators participated in the survey. The study authors describe the result as concerning.

Around half of the respondents indicate feeling pressured by their work. 52 percent rate their psychological stress as rather to very high. This means more than one in two teachers in the country are noticeably affected by the consequences of daily school life.
