In the 2024/25 school year, there were 2,187 temporary suspensions of students in Austria, while figures from several federal states continue to rise and Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) wants to counter the trend with new day-structuring programs.

Current Figures from the Federal States

The figures compiled by the Ö1-"Morgenjournal" from the education directorates of the federal states paint a clear picture: suspensions at Austria's schools are no longer isolated cases but part of everyday life. Nationwide, a total of 2,187 children and young people were temporarily excluded from classes in the 2024/25 school year. In primary schools alone, there were 413 suspensions.
