Vienna, June 13, 2026

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Vienna on Saturday midday for the 30th Rainbow Parade, which, under the motto "Visible since 1996," marched along the Vienna Ringstraße despite a heavy downpour.

Anniversary and Route

According to the organizers, the Rainbow Parade is the largest demonstration for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer people in Austria. The planned start at 12:00 was delayed by 20 minutes because a heavy rain shower moved over the city. Organizer Katharina Kacerovsky-Strobl was nevertheless satisfied: "Es sind aber alle geblieben."

The demonstration march led from the Parliament past Heldenplatz, the Vienna State Opera, Stubenring, the Urania, Schwedenplatz, and Franz-Josefs-Kai, continuing via the Börse to Schottentor and finally back to Rathausplatz. Around 4:00 p.m., the head of the march is expected to arrive there, with the end of the procession following three to four hours later. Along the route, the parade also commemorates the first colorful demonstration on the Ringstraße 30 years ago, when in 1996 colorfully dressed people and festively decorated wagons first marched on the Ring for equal rights and against the discrimination of queer people.
